Farim

MeYou're a fisherman?
Farim(cynically) Now how did you ever guess that?
FarimCan't you simply leave me alone?
FarimDon't take it personally, but I haven't been too happy with the militia lately.
FarimDon't take it personally, but I haven't been too happy lately. It's that militia.
MeTrouble with the militia?
FarimThose bastards keep coming here and taking whatever they want.
FarimLast week they made off with my entire catch. 'It's for a good cause,' they said.
FarimI know that everybody's got to fend for himself since the farmers have stopped trading.
FarimAnd, of course, sometimes people just go hungry. Small wonder that they're snatching the fish from right under my nose.
FarimBut if they keep doing this, I won't even have enough to feed myself.
MeHave you talked to the paladins about this?
Farim(laughs) Are you joking? Do you really think they'd be interested if a poor devil like me has his problems with the militia?
MeGive me all your fish.
Farim(angrily) I just KNEW it. Another of those scumbags.
FarimYou're too late, I'm afraid. Your friends were here yesterday, and they took everything.
FarimWell. I guess you had better leave now.
MeMaybe I can help you.
FarimI don't know. I suppose you'd have to know somebody from the militia who has connections to the paladins.
FarimThe paladins will hardly buy the fish from me.
MeI shall see what I can do.
MeI know how to resolve your trouble with the militia.
FarimAnd how would that be?
MeI'm not here often enough to keep a constant vigil on your fish.
MeBut I know somebody who can do just that.
MeMartin, the provisions master of the paladins, wants to hear your story about the militia and the fish.
FarimAnd you think he can make the militia leave me alone?
MeAt least that's what he said.
FarimGreat. Thank you. I cannot give you much. But wait ...
FarimI found this strange blue stone on one of the islands off the coast of Khorinis.
FarimI don't think it's worth a whole lot, but someone like you will certainly find a use for it.
MeCan you tell me something about the missing people?
FarimMy friend William started hanging out with a bunch of shady characters. And where did it get him?
FarimOne day he simply didn't show up for work, and that's the last we saw of him.
MeYour buddy William has disappeared?
FarimSo he has. He's a fisherman, but a little too big for his boots, I should add.
FarimHe should have stayed well away from that bunch.
MeWhat's he been up to?
FarimWilliam had some shady dealings with those crooks.
FarimI think it was all about contraband that he sold to the bastards.
MeWhat bastards would those be?
FarimI don't know who they are or what their business is here in Khorinis.
FarimI only know the place where they met up with William.
FarimI just happened to see William there when I was fishing in the bay.
MeWhere exactly is that meeting place?
FarimThere's a bay opposite the harbor, north of here.
FarimYou can only reach it by boat, or swim.
FarimThere's a beach there, and a small fishing camp. That's where I saw them.
MeWhen did you last see him?
FarimOnly a few days ago.
MeMaybe he just went out to sea to fish?
FarimThat's not very likely. His boat is still moored in the harbor.
MeHe'll surface again.
FarimI don't think so. He's been gone for too long already.
FarimI'm afraid that I'll be dragging his body from the sea at some point.
MeI think I've heard enough.
FarimSpare yourself the effort. I don't believe you'll find him.
MeSo, how are the fish biting?
FarimStop pretending you're interested.
FarimI've seen better times. Too little to live on, too much to die.
FarimThere you are again!
FarimHave you heard news of my buddy William, then?
MeHe's dead.
Farim(sighs) Yeah, that's what I'd been expecting.
FarimThanks for coming back here to tell me.
FarimI'll go down to the pub and drink up his share of our last catch - that's what he would have wanted ...
