Me | How's it going? | |
Bartok | You're not from around here, are you? Never mind - neither am I.
Me | Where did you hang around before?
Bartok | In the woods, hunting scavengers and wolves together with some hunters.
Bartok | But I gave it up. These are dangerous times. There's a lot of riff-raff running around out there ...
Me | Where can I find the other hunters?
Bartok | We had our camp outside, near the tavern, half way to Onar's farm.
Bartok | But I don't know whether there's anyone left in the camp now.
Bartok | There used to be two of us here in town, until a few days ago.
Bartok | My friend Trokar is an excellent hunter.
Me | So where is your friend Trokar now?
Bartok | Well. It's a curious story.
Bartok | Only a few days ago, we were both standing at the bar in Coragon's tavern, discussing the hunt.
Bartok | Don't ask me what happened next. I had had a few by then.
Bartok | I vaguely remember Trokar saying that he was going out to get a few swampweed reefers. He never came back.
Me | Where does one get swampweed reefers?
Bartok | Somewhere down at the harbor, as far as I know.
Me | Didn't you go looking for him?
Bartok | No. But I reported it to the militia.
Bartok | But they haven't been able to find him yet.
Bartok | I hope he didn't get attacked by a wolf, or worse.
Bartok | I'm afraid that I'll stumble over his body some day when I'm out hunting.
Bartok | I don't think I could bear that.
Me | Bosper said you used to work for him ...
Bartok | Yes, I did. But he was only interested in his blasted hides.
Bartok | I told him how dangerous it's gotten out there. He didn't really listen to me.
Bartok | Well, anyway he paid well - I can't complain about that.
Me | Can you tell me anything else about him?
Bartok | (laughs) Bosper had one of his bows stolen recently. In broad daylight.
Bartok | Some guy just waltzed into his store, took a bow, and left.
Bartok | The thieves are getting more and more brazen!
Me | Can you teach me something about hunting?
Bartok | I can teach you how to sneak properly and how to handle a bow.
Bartok | If you want to learn how to skin an animal, go to Bosper. He's the one who taught me.
Me | Teach me how to sneak!
Bartok | All right - so, first you have to make sure that you shift your weight properly.
Bartok | To achieve that, bend your knees and always put your foot down heel first.
Bartok | Make sure that you always keep your weight on the foot you're standing on until you've got your other foot securely placed.
Bartok | Most creatures you can't sneak up on unless they're sleeping. The beasts just smell you.
Bartok | So always pay close attention when you're out there.
Me | I want to be able to handle a bow better!
Bartok | Okay, then let's see if I can teach you anything ...
Bartok | You should now look for someone who knows more about it than I do.
Bartok | All right, your aim has become more accurate already.
Me | Why don't we go hunting together?
Bartok | Hmm. With two it isn't so dangerous, that's true...
Bartok | Do you know anything about hunting, then?
Bartok | I mean, do you know how to skin an animal?
Bartok | Do you have 50 gold pieces?
Me | Yes. | |
Bartok | All right, but I want to see 50 gold pieces. For that you can keep the skins and sell them to Bosper.
Bartok | That's a fair deal, isn't it?
Me | No. | |
Bartok | Then it wouldn't be worth it.
Bartok | Come back when you've learned something.
Me | Later ... | |
Me | Here they are ... | |
Bartok | Where, then? You don't have the gold.
Me | Let's go hunting! | |
Bartok | All right, follow me. Outside the south gate is a wood where we should find more than enough critters.
Bartok | (to himself) Probably more than we'd like ...
Bartok | So, what do you think, should we go farther into the woods or not?
Me | Let's go back! | |
Bartok | That's what I'd prefer. We'd probably wind up running straight into the arms of an orc.
Me | Let's go on. | |
Bartok | All right. (to self) Let's hope this works out ...
Bartok | That's it! I think I'm going back to the city.
Bartok | It's just too dangerous out here for me - even with two of us.
Bartok | So, see you! | |
Bartok | You can sell the skins to Bosper.
Me | Okay? | |
Bartok | Yes. But I'm not going out of the city any more - at least not any time soon.
Bartok | My knees are still shaking from the scare that orc gave us.
Bartok | Sure. Let's bring down a few beasts!
